What is DOT Laser Skin Therapy?
Dermal Optical Thermolysis (DOT) therapy is the latest in advanced laser skin treatment for a variety of textural and complexion issues. Using Fractional CO² laser technology to specifically target problem areas while leaving healthy skin untouched, DOT laser skin therapy at First OC Dermatology is customizable to address:
- Uneven texture and skin tone
- Acne scarring
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Sun damage, and more
DOT laser therapy is particularly useful for reversing signs of aging and naturally boosting collagen production in the skin, making it a great alternative to more invasive anti-aging treatments.
How Does Fractional CO² Therapy Work?
As a form of DOT laser treatment, Fractional CO² laser treatments work by removing the outermost layer of dead and damaged skin cells, revealing younger, healthier skin beneath.
This non-invasive skin rejuvenation option uses a highly focused laser made of carbon dioxide to reduce the appearance of acne scars, deep wrinkles, and other textural or complexion irregularities.
Treatment begins with a local anesthetic cream used to numb the treatment area for a comfortable, painless experience. After about 30 minutes to allow the cream to take effect, your provider will use the Fractional CO² device in a scanning pattern to remove thin, outer layers of damaged skin.
The device itself uses continuous blasts of short-pulsed light energy which both eliminate the damaged surface layer and stimulate microthermal zones in deeper skin layers to stimulate the body’s natural healing process and boost collagen production for firmer, more youthful looking skin.
This process usually only takes about 15 minutes and you can get back to your everyday life immediately after your session.
Am I a Good Candidate for Fractional CO² Treatment?
Fractional CO² is a versatile skin rejuvenation treatment suitable for different skin types and skin tones. It is relatively gentle and suitable for sensitive skin and people living with conditions like rosacea or eczema.
You are a great candidate for Fractional CO² laser therapy if you:
- Have mild to moderate fine lines and wrinkles
- Want a more even complexion
- Have acne scarring or discoloration
- Want a brighter, more youthful appearance
However, this doesn’t mean laser skin resurfacing is right for everyone. If you’re experiencing any of the following, please consult with one of our laser experts to determine your eligibility and alternative treatments that may help you achieve your desired results.
- Active acne breakouts or cold sores
- Sagging, loose skin, especially along the jawline or jowls
- Deep scarring or skin folds and wrinkles
- Certain immune or connective tissue disorders
- Deeper, darker skin tones
At First OC Dermatology, we pride ourselves in developing fully customized skin care treatments to help our patients look and feel their best. Regardless of your visit reason, we’re here to help you!
How Should I Prepare for My DOT Laser Therapy Session?
Prepping your skin before your Fractional CO² laser appointment can help ensure you get the best possible results. During your consultation, one of our expert dermatology providers will walk you through everything you need to know ahead of your appointment.
Avoid excessive sun exposure that can cause skin damage and interfere with the effectiveness of the laser. You may also be asked to avoid certain medications 72 hours prior to your appointment, such as doxycycline or minocycline.
Following your appointment, it is advised to avoid certain skincare treatments like waxing, micro-dermabrasion, exfoliation or light peels. Your provider will walk you through the best ways to optimize your results, including what products to use following DOT laser therapy to keep your skin moisturized and healthy.
What Can I Expect After My Fractional CO² Laser Session?
Laser skin resurfacing with the Fractional CO² laser eliminates the outermost layer of damaged skin to reveal younger, healthier cells beneath the surface. However, there’s still a healing process involved following each session to see your full results.
After your session, you may notice some of the following symptoms:
- Redness
- Tenderness and/or swelling
- Stinging or itching
- Mild pain and/or discomfort
- Mild flaking or peeling
These symptoms typically clear within the first two weeks of recovery. If they persist or get worse, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office for assistance.
